Abay Park

Shymkent's Abay Park, named in honor of the renowned poet and philosopher, shares similarities with other parks constructed during the Soviet era. Its entrance is adorned with grand columns, well-maintained pathways, and fountains. Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a monument to Abay Qunanbaiuly.

Much like many parks across the country, the Abay Park boasts a Memorial of Glory dedicated to the soldiers of World War II. An Alley of Glory leads to this memorial, where the names of South Kazakhstan soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the war are etched in stone. Here, you can also see tanks, anti-aircraft missile complexes, artillery pieces, and various other military artifacts. Notably, this is one of the most striking tributes to Victory and is highly recommended, especially on Victory Day. The city commemorates not only its warriors but also other heroes. As you stroll through the park, you'll come across monuments honoring those who perished in the Afghan war, border guards, and firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Abay Park

The most striking monument in the park is a genuine supersonic Su-7B fighter-bomber. This aircraft was installed to honor the graduates of the Chuguev Aviation School, which was relocated to Shymkent during World War II. Initially stationed in Ordabasy Square, the plane was moved to its current location in Abay Park in 2009.

Abay Park offers a diverse range of activities to suit all interests. It features a designated area for skating, a water park, the Hakim Abay museum, an outdoor stage for performances, a workout zone, a museum of fine arts, and even a shooting range. Everyone can find something to enjoy in Abay Park, and for those who prefer wheels, bicycles and scooters are available for rent, allowing you to explore the park's natural beauty at your leisure. For those seeking sustenance, the park offers an array of options, including cafes and food courts.
