Central Park of Shymkent

Central Park is Shymkent's oldest park, dating back to 1886 when the Public City Garden was initially established at the site. Today, the park boasts a variety of amenities, including gazebos, benches, a shop, a shooting range, and an array of decorative features. Among the park's numerous sculptures, "Deer" and "Bear" hold special significance as they share the same age as the park itself.

Families with children can enjoy the playgrounds, while fitness enthusiasts can use the workout zone. On pleasant days, Central Park offers a delightful spot to relax by the fountain, while watching a nearby stage event.

Throughout the spring and summer seasons, Central Park transforms into a lush oasis, with verdant trees and vibrant flower beds in full bloom. Some of these trees have stood for over a century, having been planted during the very inception of the City Garden, according to local lore.

Legacy of the Soviet era

One significant and poignant monument within the park is the Mass Grave Obelisk. This structure commemorates the final resting place of individuals who played pivotal roles in history. In 1919, members of the Forces of Special Purpose, a military internal security force established during the Russian Civil War, were interred here. Additionally, in 1930, the park became the resting place for the Red Army soldiers.

Lions of Alash

The park also pays tribute to Kazakhstan's journey to independence with the "Lions of Alash" sculptural composition. This installation commemorates the leaders of the Alash Autonomy, who advocated for an independent and democratic Kazakhstan, even before the formation of the USSR. Sadly, the autonomy was disbanded when the Bolsheviks outlawed the Alash party. The figures in the sculpture appear to be in motion, as if engaged in a conversation while on a walk.

How to get there?

The park is situated at the intersection of Turkistan Street, Kazybek Street, and Tauke Khan Avenue. Conveniently. Buses #16, 45, 51, 64, and 191 traverse Turkistan Street, making it easy to reach the park. Similarly, buses #1, 12, 19, 26, 34, 67, 68, 69, 74, 84, 103, 104, 133, 169, and 182 travel along Tauke Khan Avenue, offering another accessible route to Central Park.
