Shamshi Park

A couple of decades ago, a bustling market enclave thrived in the heart of Shymkent, near Ordabasy Square. This area was like a city within a city, operating under its own set of rules. In 2007, then-President N. Nazarbayev and UAE President Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited this part of the city. Following their visit, the city authorities decided to demolish the bazaar, enhance the nearby lake, and create a new square.

Today, what was once a blemish on the city's landscape has transformed into a lush green space. The square is named after Shamshi Kaldayakov, a celebrated composer and the author of Kazakhstan's anthem. At its center stands a monument dedicated to Kaldayakov, often referred to as the "king of the Kazakh waltz." Nearby, a summer amphitheater hosts performances by musical ensembles. The Avenue of Stars, adorned with marble slabs bearing the names of Kazakhstani singers, stretches from the monument to the amphitheater.

Near the park stands the Shamshi Kaldayakov Philharmonic Hall. Within its walls, Kaldayakov composed the song 'My Kazakhstan,' which later became the foundation for Kazakhstan's national anthem.
