Kazyna Ethno-Historical Complex

The Kazyna Ethno-Historical Complex spans across a vast 76 hectares of land along Baidibek Avenue in Shymkent. Its grand vision is to introduce Shymkent's residents and tourists to the rich history and culture of Kazakhstan. In this article, we present an exciting itinerary that explores the complex, promising a memorable journey through its various attractions.

Our journey starts at Jailaukol Park, nestled by the Jailau Lake. This park boasts a boat station, an amusement park complete with Shymkent Altyn Eye Ferris wheel (soaring as high as a 20-story building), carousels, swings, and gazebos.

From Jailau Park, our path leads us toward Nauryz Square. Here, decorative compositions celebrate Kazakh national games, and the square's stage showcases a remarkable bas-relief titled "Village – My Golden Cradle." This artwork depicts scenes from the past and present life of the Kazakh people, including dances, kokpar (equestrian sports game), kures (wrestling), and more. Nauryz Square has long been a hub for festivals and concerts.

Two buildings stand in direct opposition to the square: the Center of Customs and Rituals and the South Kazakhstan Museum of Local History. The Center of Customs and Rituals is a unique institution in Kazakhstan, immersing visitors in the life, customs, and traditions of the Kazakhs and other ethnic groups residing in the southern part of the country, such as Uzbeks, Uyghurs, Dungans, and more. The yurt placed in front of the building serves as a symbol of traditional nomadic dwellings.

Within the South Kazakhstan Regional Museum, visitors embark on a journey spanning ancient times to the present day, unveiling the history of southern Kazakhstan. Remarkably, this museum is one of the city's oldest institutions, having emerged in the 1920s.

Adjacent to the museum, you'll discover the Great Silk Road sculpture. Comprising metal sculptures of riders, horses, camels, and medieval towers stretching over 50 meters (164 ft) in length and towering to a height of 8 meters (26 ft), this composition offers an excellent backdrop for photographs.

From a distance, you can spot the monument erected in honor of the 550th anniversary of the Kazakh Khanate – the first state on the territory of modern-day Kazakhstan. At its core, a ten-meter pyramid stands tall, flanked by two interconnected arches reminiscent of the shanyrak (a wooden yurt dome), a symbol of family well-being and tranquility. One side of the monument narrates the history of the Kazakh Khanate (from 1465 to the mid-19th century), while the other side bears the words of Nursultan Nazarbayev, the first president of Kazakhstan.

The fountain is surrounded by lush greenery and gazebos, providing a perfect spot for relaxation before further exploring the beauty of the Kazyna Complex.

Continuing from the fountain, we delve deeper into the park and encounter an alley featuring miniature replicas of tourist attractions from the Turkistan Region. This is a rare opportunity to glimpse the mausoleums of Khoja Ahmed Yassawi, Arystanbab, Baba Tukti Shashty Aziz, Domalak Ana, Shamet Ishan, Ibrahim Ata, and more. The exhibit also includes a miniature of Akmeshit Cave, Kyryk Kyz Pass, and Keme Kalgan Auliye Monument.

Following our exploration of the miniature sculptures, we proceed directly to the Baidibek Bi Monument, an homage to an extraordinary figure who championed the unification of Kazakhs. This monument, the tallest in Kazakhstan, stands on a hill, with steps leading up from all four sides. From this vantage point, an awe-inspiring panoramic view of the city unfolds, often making it a favored location for photoshoots.
