Metallurgist Park
Metallurgist Park was established in the 1930s near the former lead plant in Shymkent. Although the plant has long ceased operation, the park continues to thrive. It’s home to almost century-old oak trees planted during the park’s inception. Scattered throughout the park are small architectural elements from the Soviet era.
The park houses the Palace of Metallurgists, an architectural monument from the 1950s. This building, a fine example of the Stalinist Empire style, features a grand arched portico, engaged columns, and a granite staircase. Like many buildings of that era in Soviet republics, it is adorned with national stylistic elements. Today, the building serves as the home of Miras University.
Also within the park is a monument to Vladimir Lenin, founder of the Russian Communist Party and leader of the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917. The monument was relocated here from the city center in 1998.
