Mausoleum of Basibek
The Mausoleum of Basibek, situated on a hilltop near the Syrdarya River, is a testament to the life of Basibek Shuakbayuly, who lived from 1818 to 1894. Local elders describe him as a wise man who built a mosque and promoted religious education among the youth in the area.
The mausoleum was built by a local artisan named Kazakpai. Its façade features a wide wall adorned with masonry work, standing about 2 meters taller than the other walls. In front of this wall stands a granite stone inscribed with Basibek's name and years of life. Behind the wall is a small square room serving as a burial place. Interestingly, the mausoleum lacks a dome or roof.
The Mausoleum of Basibek is an exact replica of the Mausoleum of Beketai, located just 10 kilometers (6 mi) downstream of the Syrdarya. The only notable difference is the absence of a dome over Basibek's tomb.
How to get there?
The Mausoleum of Basibek is located in the Aral district of the Kyzylorda region of Kazakhstan. The nearest village, Akkulak, is 5 kilometers (3 mi) southwest of the mausoleum.
