Lake Balykty

Not far from Shymkent lies the picturesque lake of Balykty. Its name, meaning "lake with lots of fish" in Kazakh, is quite fitting. The lake is teeming with fish, and thanks to its crystal-clear waters, they are easily visible. However, fishing is forbidden as the lake is part of the Sairam-Ugam National Park, a protected area. Swimming in the lake can also be quite challenging. Balykty is fed by underground springs, which keep the water icy cold, even in summer. Its depth is another surprise, reaching up to 25 meters (82 ft) – remarkable for such a small lake.

Visitors can enjoy boat or catamaran rides, which are available for rent on-site. The lakeside is also equipped with gazebos and barbecue areas.Озеро Балыкты
