Mausoleum of Babaji Khatun
The Mausoleum of Babaji Khatun, situated in the Zhambyl Region, dates back to the 12th century. Its construction is linked with the nearby Mausoleum of Aisha Bibi. Babaji Khatun, known as a companion to Aisha Bibi, assumed the role of caretaker for Aisha Bibi's mausoleum after her untimely death from a snake bite, as the legend narrates.
Following Babaji Khatun's death, a mausoleum was erected in her honor. The structure, crafted from burnt brick, features a distinctive ribbed cone-shaped dome. Ornate details, such as niches, medallions, carved frames, and arched windows, embellish all facades of the mausoleum. The main facade bears an Arabic inscription identifying the mausoleum as belonging to Babaji Khatun, with the builder's name also displayed.
Dating back to the early Middle Ages, the mausoleum holds profound cultural, historical, and architectural significance. It’s included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
