Talas Alatau Mountains

Talas Alatau is a mountain range that is part of the Western Tien Shan. Kazakhstan encompasses only its southern spurs. The mountain range stretches over 270 km with a width of 30 km. The highest point is Mount Manas (4482 m), which lies within Kyrgyzstan's borders. The glaciers within Talas Alatau serve as the headwaters for the Talas and Arys rivers, coursing through Kazakhstan's Zhambyl and Turkistan regions.

The terrain features a diverse landscape of subalpine and alpine meadows, forests and steppes utilized as pastures, and rocky formations. Spring and summer showcase the mountain range's breathtaking beauty.

A prominent attraction within Talas Alatau is the Aksu-Jabagly Nature Reserve, Kazakhstan's oldest nature reserve. It’s home to snow leopards and the rare Greig tulip. The environmental protection zone boasts the Aksu Canyon, Koksay Gorge, and the Aksu and Jabagly rivers. Beyond these, the Talas Alatau Mountains offer a myriad of sights, including mountain streams, lakes, snow-capped peaks, gorges, and plateaus.
