How to get there?
The southwestern shore of Alakol is easily accessible by car from both Almaty and Taldykorgan. The road trip from Almaty spans approximately 600 kilometers (373 mi) and takes around 8 hours, while the distance from Taldykorgan covers approximately 340 kilometers (211 mi) and can be reached in about 5 hours.
For those preferring train travel, the villages of Akshi and Koktuma are accessible via a direct train route from Astana, with the final destination being the village of Dostyk. The train journey takes nearly a day. Additionally, there are trains available from Almaty that can take you to the coast in 15-18 hours. It's important to note that during the summer season, when the demand is high, the number of trains may increase.
Alternatively, both Almaty and Astana offer flight options to the airport near the village of Usharal. From there, travelers can easily reach the coast by taxi.
