Duboviy Park
Duboviy Park, also known as Oak Park, is one of Bishkek’s oldest parks. Established in 1890, it is famous for its century-old oak trees, monuments, sculptures, and open-air museum.
Two Parts of a Whole
The park is divided into two sections. The first is a green garden area where visitors can stroll beneath oaks that are more than a century old. In summer, the trees offer plenty of shade and in autumn, the park comes alive with vibrant fall colors.
The second section is an open-air museum featuring monuments, sculptures, and historic buildings. The first sculptures appeared there in 1984 during a national sculptors’ convention. They explored the themes of “Labor and Peace” and were brought to Bishkek from various regions of the Soviet Union.
The sculptures remained in the park after the convention ended, and more works were added over the years. Each statue has a plaque indicating its title and the artist’s name. Today, the open-air museum houses around one hundred sculptures.
In 2010, the park was renamed in honor of Chingiz Aitmatov, one of Kyrgyzstan’s most celebrated writers. However, locals continue to refer to it as Duboviy Park.
